What Can I Use to Disinfect My House?

While Germinator is a great way to help reduce the threat of germs and viruses in your home, there are other ways to disinfect the surfaces in your home. Many of the products made for sanitizing and disinfecting your home contain harsh chemicals and can be dangerous to people and pets. Those same products can also be harmful to the environment, so it's always important to read the ingredients of any products you buy. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guide entitled Green Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Disinfecting: A Curriculum for Early Care and Education warns against these products, indicating through studies that "5% of childhood cancer and 30% of childhood asthma are related to chemical exposures." A lot of this is the result of chemical-based cleaners used in the home or schools.

Boy Holding Harmful Cleaning Products
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guide entitled Cleaning and Disinfecting Schools targets our educational system, but the guidelines are helpful for cleaning and sanitizing at home as well. This guide states, "Wash surfaces with a general household cleaner to remove germs. Rinse with water, and follow with an EPA-registered disinfectant to kill germs." The guide stresses reading the label to make sure it specifies the EPA has approved the product for effectiveness against influenza A virus.

There are numerous "green" and "eco-friendly" products on the market for sanitizing and disinfecting. Many of these products are effective. The guidelines for products to use "buzz word" labeling like "green" and "eco-friendly" are still not tight enough. Companies are not, for instance, required to include proprietary ingredients on the label, which means you might not always know what you're getting. As with anything, a little research about a product you're considering can help you determine if it's right for you.

The CDC also suggests using disinfectant wipes for phones, electronics, and other often-touched areas but says, "Pay close attention to the directions for using disinfecting wipes. It may be necessary to use more than one wipe to keep the surface wet for the stated length of contact time." While disinfectant wipes are not a replacement for regular cleaning and disinfecting, they are good for maintaining areas that are used frequently.

Does a COVID-10 Vaccine Mean We Can Cut back on Sanitizing and Disinfecting?

Recent news about COVID-19 vaccines sounds promising, but it's important to remember that proper sanitizing and disinfecting is necessary for the success of the COVID-19 vaccine. A vaccine is meant to prepare your body to fight infection if it is exposed, and proper cleaning and disinfecting helps reduce your exposure, so proper cleaning and disinfecting is critical toward the success of a vaccine. The CDC offers specific guidelines about proper cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting for the flu and other viruses on their website, even though a vaccine for the flu exists. The same will hold true for COVID-19 as well. A vaccine for any virus does not eliminate the need to keep your environment as free of germs and bacteria as possible. According to the CDC, the combination of sanitizing and disinfecting and the vaccines work together to achieve the best results.

Germinator is a great way to thoroughly sanitize and disinfect your house. Our patent-pending process is a thorough process that effectively helps reduce the threat of all types of germs, bacteria, and viruses.

We first test your surfaces for ATP using a luminometer to detect light that can come from cellular activity. This measurement immediately tells us the level of clean on your surfaces.

Genesis is a one-step cleaner and broad-spectrum sanitizer and disinfectant treatment that harnesses the power of HOCl (hypochlorous acid) solution. Derived from naturally occurring minerals, Genesis not only eliminates odors at their source but kills a wide range of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, Salmonella enterica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and viruses including norovirus, rotavirus and adenovirus on hard, non-porous, environmental surfaces. It meets the AOAC germicidal spray standards for Hospital Grade Disinfection and is on the EPA N List of products determined to meet the criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. As a result, this treatment will eliminate bacteria and viruses that may reside in your environment without the use of harsh chemicals or fumes.

The Shield is a water-based quaternary ammonium compound that imparts a durable bacteriostatic finish to a wide range of non-food contact surfaces. It is EPA-registered as effective against mold, mildew, algae and odor-causing bacteria. This application creates an invisible barrier that combats deterioration and discoloration and promotes freshness for up to three months.

The Genesis and Shield products are applied by using an electrostatic sprayer, which is the most efficient and effective means of delivering the products to the intended application sites.

After our surface treatment and protectant services, we retest to ensure the surfaces have achieved the intended results.

Upholding the highest standards of sanitization and disinfecting, Germinator only makes claims that are scientifically supported and within EPA regulations. To research and further validate its practice of sanitizing and disinfecting surfaces, the company recently created the Germinator Scientific Board. The board is made up of key leaders such as Dr. Roscoe M. Moore, Jr. —who was an Assistant to the United States Surgeon General for five administrations.
